Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is a Government body which charged with the responsibilities of regulating and registering the company/business name.
Note: Among reasons that this body is established including making business owner responsible and be guided under rule. It would also help attracts more customers to see your business as running by a serious minded and reliable fellow. The commission would not allow two companies/businesses to bares the same name. These is to moderate identification of individual companies and to check misrepresentation of facts of them.
Having lacks prequisite knowledge of what it's takes register a business name by many business people. Most of whom aren't awares of reason a business name should be registered, there are more others whom, actually interested in registering but neither aware the reasons they should do so or what it's takes to register.
Little are they whom acknowledge the reasons, the benefits attached to business registration and can do this registration by themselves.
Can you follow the simple instructions below to do it yourself? Below are steps by steps guides on how to register a business name by anyone:
1) Name Availability Check:
Prior taken any step, the potential business owner, whom interested in registering his/her business name with CAC must first of all have a name or two to be registered in mind. Checking the availability of name is very imperative so as not to choose a name that has already existing or been registered through the CAC.

2) Reservation:
Reservation of business name is simply mean to request keeping of a particular name of choice that a business owner would love to register under the CAC.
The Reservation process of business name attract a fee charge, which is to be paid to the CAC account using the smart card.

Note that every approved names will be reserved and expired in 60 (Sixty) days time. If not registered before the 60 expire days, that mean you would no longer make use of that name.
3) Pre-registration of Business Name:
An online form for the pre-registration of the reserved name (if reserved) shall be done, by filling of personal and business details with declaration of means of Identify such as National Identify Card (NIN), Driver's license, International Passport etc.
This part would also attract a payment of certain fee into the CAC purse with same procedure done during reservation. To fill in the Form CAC1.1 (Click Here).
4) Preparation of documents:
After a successful online pre-registration processes, you should prepare the evidence of your payment (which to be downloaded from your Email, or could be print out from the CAC portal). Also, a means of Identify eg National ID Card, Driver's license, or international Passport etc to be scanned. Also, the printout of the Reservation and Registration form for proper signing should be prepared.
The above documents after signing and vetting are to be scanned, converted to PDF, and combining into one document depends on individual categories, eg both payment slips as one document while the CAC sign forms and others as a single file. We must keep the ID card in a separate PDF form.
6 Upload OF Documents:
For official perusal of the documentation, there's need to Upload the following documents in form of PDF: (i) Payment slip; (ii) Means of identify; and (iii) filled, Scanned and converted documents to the CAC portal, to further approval or rejection.

7) Submission of the original copies of the documents earlier uploaded (if approved):
Upon uploaded of all requisite documentations through the online. You should be revisits your dashboard to check if the "Pending" registration has turned to "Registered". If turned, congratulations! That's mean, your business name has been registered.
You can now gather the printed copies of those documents and visit the CAC office that you initially choosed as you collection office during the registration in exchange for your Business Name Certificate.
